Overview

Who Knows Who is Channel 4's new website which shows the connections between politicians, celebrities and business leaders, and where power really lies in the UK. We hope that it will reveal the surprising and often hidden stories behind the headlines. This is the first iteration of an ongoing process to develop this tool to be rich in content and functionality and over time build the biggest network of connections in the UK.

Sources

Who Knows Who draws on information from third party sites such as mysociety.co.uk and other established institutions. At launch, the site will concentrate on the connections which came out of the Channel 4 documentary When Boris Met Dave. The Channel 4 News and current affairs team will add new topics and stories as the site grows and welcomes suggestions for areas to investigate from users.

We want your input

One of the most important goals for this site is to build up a community of users and share their knowledge with the widest possible group. By exposing who really does know who, we hope to hold those who hold power to account more closely. Users can also rate stories and add their comments.

Technology

We deliberately avoided the traditional article-style format for this project and set out to display our journalism in new and innovative ways. The interactive map, which visualises the network of people, is built in Flash and aims to enable you to explore and understand where power lies.

The site, which was created by Tui Interactive Media for Channel 4, has an open source foundation and we invite you to help make it better.

Future

We have great ambitions for the site and in later phases have many new and exciting developments which will increase the user experience and build up a network which covers ever more people and institutions. We launch with around 6,000 connections, we want to multiple that many times over - and hope you can help us do so.
